From the Television Movie of the Oakland hills fire, "Firestorm".
The scene was a reenactment of an actual incident. Joe Jackson was trying to escape the blaze on his motorcycle. Because of the wind, the fire from the houses filled the air to the houses across the street.
He hoped for the best and rode the bike through the flames. When he made it through, he jumped off of the bike, rolled on the ground to put the fire on his body out, and got back on the bike to ride to the hospital. Joe was on the set during filming.
